О курсе

Ammonia is a well-known chemical and produced in more than 200 million tons annually. Catalytic ammonia synthesis was established more than 100 years ago and marked the beginning of synthetic fertilizers, which nowadays feed ca. 50% of world’s population. Ammonia production uses hydrogen. Therefore, hydrogen production routes determine how “green” ammonia is – at present it is based on using fossil hydrogen carriers. Why the recent interest in ammonia? It is considered a potential green, zero emission fuel for example for shipping. What makes ammonia interesting for this purpose? What are green production routes? What is the potential? What are the challenges? This course is for you, if you would like to learn more about ammonia, its past, present, and potential future. The course targets people with a technical background and interest. You may be an undergraduate student, a graduate student, or an experienced employee in related industries. You are introduced to key concepts related to ammonia, mainly by researchers from the Technical University of Denmark: basic properties, history, catalytic synthesis from conventional processes to modern routes, including research, current and future potential applications, sustainability consideration and more. You will learn through presentations, use cases and examples, and by reading central reports. The course is organized using a variety of tools such as videos, lectures, self-study, exercises and quizzes.
