This specialization provides a detailed understanding of boiler environmental, electrical, and control systems in modern thermal power plants. It begins with the fundamentals of NOx generation and reduction technologies, including primary combustion control measures, Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction (SNCR), and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems, along with associated ammonia handling. Learners also explore Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD) systems, including wet limestone-based FGD, major components, and limestone and gypsum handling systems. The course covers boiler electrical systems, including auxiliary power supply, HT and LT switchgears, motors, variable frequency drives, DC motors, starter panels, and earthing. Dust control systems and Electrostatic Precipitators (ESP) are explained in detail, covering ionization, ash collection, high-voltage equipment, and mechanical safety features. Instrumentation and control topics include pressure, level, flow, and temperature measurement, analysers, final control elements, HART and Foundation Fieldbus, burner control systems, boiler monitoring equipment, control logic, and Distributed Control Systems (DCS). Learners gain the skills to design, operate, and maintain reliable, efficient, and compliant boiler environmental, electrical, and control systems.
