This course specialization provides an in-depth and industry-oriented understanding of boiler layout, design, pressure parts, and structural support systems used in thermal power plants. It begins with an overview of boiler plant layout, covering ground-mounted equipment, fuel preparation areas, firing systems, critical piping, fans, ducting, and chimney interfaces. The course explains customer specifications, basic boiler design inputs, heat duty, efficiency, and combustion calculations, along with guidelines for furnace selection, coal pulverizers, and heating surface design. Detailed coverage is given to pressure part arrangements for stoker-fired, fluidized bed, circulating fluidized bed, and pulverized coal–fired boilers. Key components such as economizers, steam drums, water walls, superheaters, reheaters, headers, and desuperheaters are explained with construction and flow paths. The specialization also focuses on boiler supports, buckstays, materials, metallurgy, insulation, refractory, and applicable codes and standards. Structural engineering aspects include boiler structures, platforms, galleries, loadings, analysis, design, and structural connections, enabling learners to understand safe, reliable, and optimized boiler design.
